Specification
It is important to note that the 10-15mic foil is intended for general use in the home, such as covering bowls, wrapping sandwiches, lining cookie sheets or short-term storage of food, and is not designed for use in high temperature cooking applications.

There is a 10-15 micron thickness and 0.5mm tolerance for both the thickness and width of all Food Safe Household Aluminum Foil manufactured in a highly controlled rolling and annealing process in order to achieve an even thickness and a clean oil-free surface that is free of any contaminants. Also, there are two sides to most of the aluminum foil products produced for Home Consumer Use: The shiny side reflects the heat, while the textured side is the only side recommended for contact with food products. Thus, the shiny side is best used for cooking, such as grilling or baking, and the textured side of the foil is best used for storage or wrapping foods when preparing and serving them to customers.
In addition, all aluminum foil sold as food service foil in a grocery store are available in standard widths that are compatible with standard household kitchen utensils and standard kitchen use scenarios to help minimize waste, while maximizing usability and convenience. Based on current trends in speculation and shopping habits by consumers, the majority of the 10-15 micron household aluminum foil sold is produced in the following widths, with some variations based on geographic regional market dynamics:
- 300mm (12 inches): The most common size worldwide and will accommodate most standard household baking trays, bowls, and plates; therefore, it is likely to be used for all day-to-day purposes (e.g., wrapping food left over from meals, lining baking sheets with foil for cookies, cakes; wrapping food items to go into the refrigerator) There are many lengths of household foil that are available at this width - normal lengths of 300mm wide are generally between 5m - 60m, with the most common length choices being either of the 10m, 20m, and 30m lengths for use by families; 10-20m is adequate for small families of 2-3 people; 30m or more provides better value for larger families and frequent users.
- 250mm (10 inches): A narrower choice typically used for small scale applications (e.g., wrapping single portions of foods such as sandwiches or pieces of fruit, covering small bowls/cups with foil). Because of their small size, they take up less storage space and use far less foil when using foil to wrap a small quantity of food; therefore, they are very popular choices among people living alone or for wrapping specific smaller food items.
-450mm (18 inches): This is considered to be a mid-range width, providing an ideal balance of diversity and surface area for cooking purposes. It's also a good option for cooking meats or poultry in larger dishes (e.g., roasting trays), so it's commonly used by families who regularly bake or cook larger quantities. The size of this foil is less commonly used than 300mm, however; it allows you to create better coverage than a 300mm foil without having a very large size that will be difficult for the average home to use.
Most manufacturers also have available widths of custom sizes (200mm or 600mm) to accommodate customers' needs, as they are generally not sold at retail. The length of household foil will also typically be directly related to its width; narrow widths (i.e. <300mm) will usually be shorter in length (e.g., 5–10m), while wider widths (300mm and greater) will be longer in length (20–60m), which allows for cost efficiency and savings to the consumer.
The main distinction between household & restaurant aluminum foil is based solely on size specifications (thickness, width, length) that match the requirements of each type of application. Household aluminium foil is designed mainly for convenience and low cost when used in small quantities on a daily basis while restaurant aluminium foil was created with durability/efficiency in mind because it is used in very large quantities and extremely heavy-duty applications.
Household-10-15mic – The thickness of household foil is typically between 10 and 15 microns. This thickness is generally considered to be optimal for its form/ function in performing daily household chores because it allows for easy cutting and shaping; therefore if you’re wrapping food for use and/or light baking, this is not going to need to be very heavy duty but when using it for heavy duty applications (e.g., wrapping large, sharp bones for example) or using it on the grill for high temperatures over long periods of time, it will probably rip easily.
Conversely, restaurant foil (also referred to as commercial foil) has an increased gauge for better durability, tear and heat resistance. Restaurant aluminum foil has increased thickness compared to food packaging aluminum foil due to commercial kitchen uses where restaurant operations typically produce large volumes of product.
There are two widths of foil available for home use (250mm - 400mm) and for commercial use (450mm and wider).
The size of standard household (5 - 60 m) vs. restaurant (30 - 500 m) rolls of foil can differ greatly. The typical length of a household roll is 5 to 60 metres since most households will not use large quantities of foil at any one time and will also find it easier to store smaller amounts for use before the foil's quality deteriorates (i.e. oxidising, becoming brittle).
Restaurant rolls of foil tend to be much larger; typically 30 to 500 metres long (or approximately 1000 feet – about 304.8 m in North America). This is due to the restaurant and catering industry utilising large amounts of foil every day, and the lengths of foil rolls serve to reduce the frequency of roll changes, ultimately leading to increased productivity in the workplace.
Household aluminum foil measuring 10-15mic is an extremely flexible, practical and economical resource for any kitchen. With its ultra thin (10-15mic) thickness, food safety compliant aluminium alloy properties, and its superior ability to conduct thermal energy and maintain flexibility, this is an ideal foil for everyday domestic requirements. The selected width of the foil (250mm, 300mm or 450mm) is particularly suited to individual household uses and is designed to provide maximum efficiencies of waste reduction as well as ease of use.
