Using 45cm wide rolls allows you to cover larger items such as whole pieces of meat, cover large pans or trays and cover larger kitchen tools. Catering companies, bakery and small food workshops typically prefer to use 45cm for wrapping and covering larger quantities of food efficiently.

Aluminum foil has a common thickness of 9-12 μm, often called "light duty" aluminum foil. It has the following properties: very light and good flexibility. These properties make it perfect for applications where weight non-important and high temperatures are not used.
Food Wrap (9-12 μm) is ideal for wrapping food (sandwiches, fruits, leftovers) that do not need to be heated or require high temperature use. Aluminum foil is flexible and conforms to the shape of the food, creating a tight seal. A wrap sandwich with 9 μm aluminum foil will not dry out during storage or transportation and the filling will remain in place. One common use of 9-12 μm aluminum foil is for packing candy, chocolate, or other small baked items. Due to its lightweight nature and ease of tear and seal.
The use of 9-12 μm aluminum foil for lining small bakeware or cake pans (10-0 μm aluminum foil) allows for easy cleanup after baking. When using 9-12 μm aluminum foil to line the cooking surface of a small baker or coated cake pan (10-0 μm aluminum foil) can be removed without difficulty during baking.
Note: 9-12 μm aluminum foil is not intended for high temperature cooking of food, nor wrapping sharp edged food items (e.g. meats or poultry) as it is subject to breaking and tearing.
The next thickness is a 15μm to 18μm aluminum foil that is commonly known as the all purpose or standard aluminum foil and comes in rolls that are the size of 30cm and 45cm.

In a household using a thickness of 15-18μm aluminum foil, this foil can be used to wrap leftovers, covering bowls and/or plates, and/or lining trays for baking. Additionally, aluminum foil that has a thickness of 15-18 μm is also going to be suitable for moderate temperature cooking methods such as; baking cookies, cakes, or roasted vegetables because aluminum foil is capable of withstanding temperatures of up to 200 degrees Celsius without melting or tearingWhen baking in a foil-lined tray, aluminium foil not only prevents the cake from sticking but also gives even heat distribution throughout the cake giving you an even baked cake.
Heavy-Duty foil is thicker than the typical 20μm-24μm price range on standard small roll thicknesses of 30cm & 45cm (30cm x 45cm) because of its increased ability to handle heat and not tear (puncture resistance) at high heat.
In households, using the same weight and quality of 20μm-24μm on high heat cooking (i.e. roasting whole chickens, turkeys or large cuts of meat) can be done with confidence that the foil will not break or melt due to ratings of up to 220°C; therefore enabling safe cooking of food at those temperatures without worrying about the foil breaking or melting.
Another use for 20μm-24μm foil at home is using it to wrap objects that have sharp edges like bones or shells from seafood, because this thickness will provide the ability for the foil to resist punctures from the sharp edges thus increasing food safety.
