The thickness of aluminum foil is a critical attribute in distinguishing all kinds of aluminum foil, with thicknesses of Standard Aluminum Foils being structured within a fixed range expected by the consumer. The thickness of standard household Aluminum Foil is targeted for daily household use, and the standard thickness for this type of aluminum foil is from 10 to 14 microns, according to business standards and market practices.
These thicknesses were established with consideration of the foil being lightweight but durable enough for daily use and flexible enough to wrap around food items with irregular shapes; at the same time, they are strong enough to withstand normal handling and tearing.
An example of this would be that the 10 micron version will wrap a sandwich and cover a small bowl, while the 14 micron version provides some extra strength for lining cookie sheets and basic steaming. Household heavy-duty aluminum foil is thicker than standard foil and has a thickness range of 15 to 25 microns. The larger thicknesses also provide heavy-duty foil with more tensile strength and heat-resistant properties that withstand higher roasting temperatures (up to 220°C) without oil leaking into the package when food is wrapped with this type of foil.
The widths of aluminum foil rolls, including both standard and heavy-duty aluminum foil, are designed to meet various purposes in the home, making them easy to use. In terms of standard foil rolls, the width ranges between 200 mm and 450 mm; the most common width is 300 mm.
The width of 200 mm is ideal for small individual portions of food, such as fruit, snack foods and leftover meat slices; it is economically priced. The width of 300 mm is in the middle of the range and can be used for many purposes, including covering medium-sized bowls or lining small to medium baking trays, and wrapping sandwiches and cuts of small meat. While not as popular with standard aluminum foil, the 450 mm width is geared toward families who require large amounts of aluminum foil, for example, lining larger baking pans and wrapping large quantities of food at one time.
Heavy-duty aluminum foil typically has widths as wide as 600 mm, which can accommodate large items, such as whole chickens, fish or large baking trays. HTMM Aluminum Foil Factory, among others, offers customers the option of customizing their widths for standard and heavy-duty foil. The custom width option is available for both household and small commercial use.
Standard aluminum foil roll has many uses and can be utilized in all areas of everyday cooking, as well as in preserving food and organizing your home. Heavy-duty foil is good for high-intensity jobs, while standard aluminum foil is ideal for basic everyday household uses. The thickness range (including heavy duty), the width of common rolls, and the general uses of the foils are summarized in the following table.
Standard aluminum foil rolls are not limited to traditional uses listed in the table; they can provide a variety of innovative ways to simplify everyday tasks. By crumpling a standard sheet of aluminum foil into small balls, you can place them inside your dryer to reduce the amount of static cling on your clothing without having to use chemical dryer sheets. Wrapping the bottoms of Banana Bunches with aluminum foil will help slow the ripening process because it blocks ethylene gas from causing the fruit to spoil prematurely.
Aluminum foil can also be used as a makeshift baking mat when lining trays for delicate pastries. Simply line the tray with aluminum foil instead of parchment paper to avoid any baked goods from sticking & still have an easy clean up. The creative contributions made by aluminum foil are plentiful; a crumpled ball of aluminum foil can be used for polishing tarnished silverware. Finally, by lining your oven’s drip pan with aluminum foil, all you need to do is throw the aluminum foil away – there’s no need to clean the drip pan itself.
