Description
We offer a unique aluminum foil product with a 6 micron thickness that has an extremely thin dimension (6 microns) and performs very well in many ways not possible by most manufacturers. Because it is only 6 microns thick, it takes approximately 40% less material to produce compared to a standard 10 micron foil of similar size. Consequently, this ultra-thin foil has many applications where an effective barrier can be maintained; therefore, it reduces material costs and lowers environmental impact.

Our 6 micron foil is also flexible and conformable, which allows it to be used in a variety of applications such as lamination, winding, or forming without cracking, due to our controlled annealing processes. We produce the material from 1235 or 8079 high purity alloys to give the foil a very low pin hole density and a high-quality surface finish. Our state-of-the-art rolling technology can produce pin hole counts between 10-30 per square meter in this difficult gauge. Additionally, our stringent thickness tolerance of +/- 5% across the width of our foil will provide consistent performance during high-speed converting and winding processes. What are the primary uses of 6 micron aluminum foil? 
A: The main uses include aluminum electrolytic capacitors (for anode foils), flexible packaging laminates with ultra-thin barrier layers, specialized tapes, insulation products, decorative metallization/decorative foil applications, and technical uses that require weight/thinness as top priorities.

Does 6 micron foil provide as good of a moisture or oxygen barrier as thicker foil? 
A: 6 micron foil has an excellent moisture and oxygen barrier; however, because of the greater pinhole potential when compared to a thicker foil, it generally does not perform as well in terms of barrier performance. In some cases where length of shelf life is required for strict barrier requirements, 7-9 micron foil would be considered ideal. In many cases, where the foil is incorporated into other materials as part of a laminate process, 6 micron foil provides an adequate barrier while yielding significant material savings.

Do you have 6 micron foil that can be used in food contact applications? 
A: Yes, 6 micron foil made from our 1235 alloy has met all of the required FDA regulations and EU food contact regulations. However, as the 6 micron foil is very thin, the majority of food packaging applications use it as a component in a multi-layer laminate. This allows the laminate to provide the necessary mechanical strength, while the foil provides the barrier properties.

What is the normal pinhole amount your 6 micron foil has?
A:  The regular foil grade's density of pinholes is less than 50 per m2. For better protecting, we sell a premium grade of foil with a pinhole density of <20/m2. Pinholes on custom foils can be discussed and incorporated into your requirements.

What is the minimum amount of order for custom specifications?
A: The standard MOQ is 2 metric tonnes and may be split between various widths or specifications in any one alloy/thickness. Sample rolls are available as well as small quantities for trial orders and/or application development, upon request.
