Description
The 8011 alloy has a great combination of, iron, and silicon, and is manufactured to the exact H24 temper, produced by strain-hardening and then partially annealing the material. The H24 temper provides for an outstanding combination of mechanical properties, yielding tensile and yield strengths that exceed fully-soft (O) tempers, while having sufficient ductility and elongation to support complex forming operations. Our highly advanced rolling mills and precision annealing furnaces guarantee that every coil provides the highest levels of gauge consistency, surface quality, and mechanical uniformity, substantially exceeding the industry standards for these tolerances.
Description
HTMM’s 8011 H24 foil is not a generic commodity foil; it is an engineered substrate that is intended for demanding applications where reliable performance, dimensional stability, and the ability to be formed, are mandatory. Whether your application uses semi-rigid food containers, durable lidding stock, or technical industrial components, HTMM’s 8011-H24 foil is the structural foundation for the manufacturers and brands that depend on running consistent, quality results.
Specification
The significant performance of 8011 H24 foil is produced through the engineered performance of the material. This material's most important characteristic is the very good balance between strength and workability available in the H24 temper. These two features give the material the required rigidity for those applications where shape retention and stackability are necessary such as in formed containers or rigid lidding, with the added capability of allowing significant deformation in processes like deep drawing or crimping without cracking. The superior surface quality and flatness of the foil provide consistent performance when used in high-speed stamping and converting machinery, providing excellent substrates for printing, coating or laminating as well as providing added puncture and tear resistance over softer tempers making it a great option to protect your contents during filling, transportation and through end use.

The extremely versatile and widely used 8011 H24 foil produced by HTMM can be applied to a very broad range of applications from semi-rigid and rigid containers (food, trays, and pie plates) to providing shape stability and stackability due to its strength. Additionally, it is widely used as lidding stock to seal dairy cups (yogurt, dessert), ready meals, or pharmaceutical blister packs due to the necessary stiffness for safe machine handling and producing a strong, pliable or permanent seal. Furthermore, it is also used extensively in the technical and industrial fields for producing parts that require good, strength-to-weight ratios (insulation facings, cable wraps, and trim). Finally, 8011 H24 foil is utilized for closures and seals for bottles and jars, due to its formability allowing it to be crimped or pressed into place while still providing a secure closure. Last but not least, 8011 H24 foil provides a reliable, formable, and strong barrier for many modern-day products from the grocery store to the manufacturing warehouse.

Bestselling Countries

The material has a very flexible use, with a lot of demand across all the major manufacturing and packaging centres (cities) around the world. It has recently become a standard item for converters in Western Europe (Germany, Italy, France, and UK) and North America (USA and Canada). It is also being used as a standard item in Japan, South Korea and, to an increasing extent China, for both domestic and export production. Latin America (Brazil and Mexico) and the Middle East (Countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council) also have significant and growing markets. The versatility, durability and premium quality of the material makes it the material of choice for manufacturers producing a wide range of products.

FAQ

1. What is the meaning of H24 temper, and what is its significance?

An H24 temper indicates a foil that has undergone strain-hardened (cold rolled), but only partially annealed (heat-treated). The combination of strain-hardened and partially annealed gives the foil a respective property profile of having "the best of both worlds" as follows:

- A higher tensile strength and a higher tensile modulus than an O temper foil (fully soft foil), which is necessary for retaining the shape of the container it is holding.
- Sufficient ductility and elongation that will allow the material to be formed, drawn, or crimped into shape without cracking, which a full hard (H18) temper may not allow.

2. When comparing 8011 H24 versus 3003 H24 for container applications, how do they differ?
Both alloys are well suited for forming; however, there are some minor differences:

- 3003 H24 is typically viewed as a strong and stiff alloy, therefore 3003 H24 is known for providing the highest mechanical performance under more difficult, deep-drawn applications that require more rigidity.

- 8011 H24 offers a good balance of strength and cost efficiency; additionally, there are some cases where 8011 H24 is more readily formable, and it is a preferred standard for many semi-rigid container and lidding applications. Our technical team is available to help you choose the right alloy for your container design and performance requirements.

3. Is the 8011 H24 foil safe to use for direct food contact?

Yes, 8011 H24 Foil is made from food-grade alloys produced in accordance with all applicable regulations around the world: FDA (in U.S.) and EU 10/2011. Each order of foil comes with certificates verifying that the foil is safe for direct food contact applications such as containers, trays and lids.

4. Can I print or coat this foil?

Yes, the bright, uniform surface and excellent flatness of 8011 H24 Foil make it a great choice for printing and coating applications. It takes high-quality rotogravure printing extremely well, and can be coated with heat-seal lacquers, protective varnishes or other functional coatings. We can either provide foil ready for these downstream processes, or pre-coated.

5. What thickness of foil is most common for lidding applications?

For the lidding of dairy cups and similar containers, a thickness of 30µm to 50µm (0.03mm - 0.050mm) in 8011 H24 temper will be the most common thickness. This thickness will provide the required stiffness needed to handle the lids on filling line without curling; while still giving adequate sealing and ease of peeling for the end user. With larger diameter lids or lids requiring extra stiffness, thicker gauges can be used.
