An example of how HTMM's foil is used in the food service industry is the manufacture of takeaway containers, delivery trays, buffet pans, and airline meal trays that must withstand being filled, stacked, transported to customers, and reheated before serving while maintaining their structural integrity and food safety. The pre-lubrication also allows our foil to form consistently at a manufacturing speed of 60-120 containers/minute, which decreases downtime and scrap.
For baking and ovenware applications, HTMM's foil is used for pie plates, cake pans, muffin tins, roasting trays, and pizza pans that need to perform consistently at temperatures up to 220°C and distribute heat evenly and release food easily when baking. The 3003 alloy's good thermal conductivity and the structural stability of the H24 temper work together to give consistent baking results and dimensional integrity after cooking.
Retail food packaging manufacturers use our pre-lubricated foil for pre-packaged fresh and frozen foods. Container appearance, seal integrity, and stackability are all factors that influence how consumers decide which products to buy and how efficiently a manufacturer can provide a product to retail outlets; therefore, HTMM's pre-lubricated foil is manufactured with consistent lubrication to produce defect-free surfaces that will accept high-quality printing and represent the manufacturer's brand well.
Jumbo roll aluminum foil (pre-lubricated) of 3003 H24 has substantially penetrated global container production market with a preference for this product by major producers supplying all major food brand manufacturers globally. The largest consumer of pre-lubricated container foil is North America, with both the United States & Canada representing this region. This market includes a large portion of frozen food, take away food, and food service containers. The strong demand for premium quality and high-performance foil in Western Europe (Germany, France, Italy, & the United Kingdom) is a result of higher level of quality standards and higher levels of automation in this region's transformation. The expansion of container manufacturing capability of China for both domestic & export markets has made this country one of the largest and fastest emerging centers in the global container manufacturing industry, resulting in the extensive use of our pre-lubricated jumbo rolls in this country.
Turkey is an important country for pre-lubricated foil products, having a strong container manufacturing industry used to produce containers for European & Middle Eastern customers that have a requirement for pre-lubricated foil to run through automated press operations. Demand for our pre-lubricated jumbo rolls is increasing substantially in Poland & Eastern Europe based upon their recent establishment of significant capacities in container manufacturing. In addition, India's rapid growth in domestic container manufacturing has resulted in increased interest in the use of pre-lubricated materials to increase productivity and quality.

FAQ
1. What are the advantages of using 3003-H24 rather than 8011 or 8006 for your container manufacturing?RE: 3003-H24 has superior strength properties (tensile strengths of 170-210 Mpa vs. 130-170 Mpa for 8011) and yield strength; therefore, providing greater rigidity when formed into a final product and, thus providing greater resistance to denting and distortion than 8011 or 8006. In addition, it has excellent deep draw capability making it better suited for complex container shapes, and when used in high stack applications.
2. Are there advantages to using pre-lubricated foil in container manufacturing?RE: Pre-lubricated foil eliminates the need for inline lubrication systems in the manufacture of containers. This will result in approximately 50% less tool wear, aluminum pickup on forming dies, consistent metal flow producing uniform wall thickness, lower scrap rates, and allow for higher press operating speeds. These benefits will also create a cleaner press environment and reduce the amount of oil mist produced, thereby, reducing the amount of time to clean up.
3. What weight of lubricant should I use on my press?RE: Standard lubricant weight is 200-300 mg/m² per side for most container manufacturing applications. For complex shapes or deep drawn containers, a higher lubricant coating of 350-400 mg/m² is recommended. For shallow containers or presses with existing lubrication systems, a lower coating of lubricant (150-200 mg/m²) may be adequate. Our engineering team will help determine the appropriate amount of lubricant to use based on your specific container design and press operating parameters.
4. What sizes are offered regarding the Jumbo rolls? RE: The weights of the jumbo rolls we sell are from 1000 kg to 5000 kg, outer diameters are up to 1500 mm, and widths of 200 mm to 850 mm (preorder for custom widths). The cores of the jumbo rolls are either 152 mm (6"), 200mm (8"), or 300 mm (12") made from heavy-duty steel or reinforced paper, and the above measurements were designed in consideration of stability for in-line high-speed converting of the rolls and also to maximize uptime on your production processes.
5. What kind of support do you provide for manufacturers that produce containers? RE: We offer total support from our technical support group, which includes parameter optimization (blankholder pressure, draw speed and temperature) for your presses, analysis of tool life and future wear prediction, assistance in troubleshooting forming problems (earing, wrinkling or splitting), lubrication optimization for the press and tooling used, and collaborative efforts to create custom specifications for your container design. Our technical staff has extensive knowledge and experience working with high-volume manufacturing of containers throughout the world.
