Description
The availability of the two alloy types, 8011 and 3003, allows customers to select the alloy that best meets their needs; the 8011 alloy provides a good cost vs. strength ratio for most applications while the 3003 alloy provides superior mechanical performance and increased capacity for deep-drawing in the most demanding applications of containers or trays. Both alloys are processed to an H24 temper through the process of strain-hardening followed by partial annealing, which allows for the best combination of rigid strength to provide rigidity to the product and ductility to allow for complex forming without cracking or excessive thinning.
Description
HTMM produces all its 30-32 micron thickness foils in ISO-certified facilities and adheres to strict quality control standards. The 30-32 micron foil product lines produced by HTMM are offered at a consistent thickness, have a shiny surface and possess the mechanical qualities necessary for converters and manufacturers to produce high volumes of finished goods.
Specification
The 8011 and 3003 H24 30-32 micron aluminum foil rolls use some of the best mechanical properties, surface finishes and processability specifically designed for semi-rigid package applications. The optimized thickness (30-32 microns) provides excellent structural integrity for the semi-rigid container while also having enough flexibility to allow for efficient forming and converting processes and is therefore the optimal gauge for applications that require more strength than standard flexible packages foils. With two alloy options, each offers specific advantages: 8011 is an economical and good-forming option for standard containers and lids; 3003 offers higher yield strength and greater deep drawing abilities and is suitable for heavy-duty applications and special container shapes.

HTMM produces a range of semi-rigid packaging and forming applications across food, dairy, pharmaceutical, and industrial sectors using 8011 & 3003 H24 30-32 micron aluminum foil roll material. In food packaging, our 30-32 micron foil is made into semi-rigid containers for ready meals, takeaway food, frozen entrees, and prepared foods that require greater structural integrity than flexible pouches, but less thickness than rigid trays. The H24 temper of our foils offers optimum strength for container rigidity and optimum formability for high-volume production.

In dairy packaging our foil is used as lidding stock for yogurt cups, sour cream tubs, cottage cheese containers, and dessert pots where the 30-32 micron thickness gives the necessary stiffness to make reliable seals and provides the ease of peeling expected by consumers. The baking and confectionery sectors rely on our 30-32 micron foil to create pie plates, tart pans, quiche dishes, and chocolate molds because the excellent heat distribution and moldability of the material provide for even baking and cleanly releasing works. The 3003 H24 aluminum foil from HTMM used in pharmaceutical packaging offers superior strength and barrier functions and is specified for child-resistant blister lidding and unit-dose packages; therefore, the alloy is essential for protection of the products and meeting regulatory compliance.

The 8011 & 3003 H24 (30-32 Micron) Aluminum Foil Roll has gained outstanding penetration into the global packaging manufacturing centers and become the preferred products by converters and formers within the most sophisticated markets in the world. North America (i.e. United States and Canada) is the largest market for the 30-32 micron H24 foil due to the large frozen foods, prepared meals, and dairy packaging industries that require reliable semi-rigid packaging materials. Western Europe (Germany, France, Italy, United Kingdom) also has strong demand for 3003 H24 foil, due to the high level of quality and automation within their countries leading to the desire for high-performance materials for demanding forming applications.

China has established itself as a significant semi-rigid packaging manufacturing center, and our 8011 and 3003 foil is utilized by manufacturers supplying both the domestic and export markets. Japan and South Korea are the most quality-focused markets, and our H24 foil's outstanding consistency and surface quality meet the strict requirements of converters utilizing premium dairy and food packaging in those countries. Australia and New Zealand have strong demand for 30-32 micron foil given their size and demand for dairy and prepared food manufacturing.

FAQ

1. How do 8011 and 3003 alloys compare for foils in the 30-32 micron thickness range?
A: Generally, the 8011 alloy is a very cost-effective option that has good formability currently used for standard semi-rigid containers and containers with lids that do not require high strength. The 3003 alloy provides much higher tensile strength (180-220 MPa vs. 150-190 MPa) and has better deep-drawability and greater rigidity than the 8011 alloy; therefore, the 3003 alloy is used for more difficultly shaped containers, heavy-duty applications, and products that need maximum structural integrity.

2. Why should H24 temper be selected for 30-32 micron foil?
A: The H24 temper provides the most effective balance of strength and formability for semi-rigid packaging applications; it has enough rigidity to maintain the integrity of the container and stackability but has enough ductility (3%-8% elongation) to not crack during the complex forming processes (i.e., deep-drawing and stamping). This balance helps to achieve efficient high-volume production.

3. What are some examples of containers best suited for 30-32 micron H24 foil?
A: Examples include ready meal trays (semi-rigid), take-out food containers (semi-rigid), frozen entree trays (semi-rigid), pie plates (semi-rigid), tart pans (semi-rigid), compartment trays (semi-rigid), and airline meal containers (semi-rigid). H24 is also a very common material used for lidding stock for dairy cups, dessert pots, and pharmaceutical blister lidding, where additional stiffness is required on the lid.

4. Is there a way to enhance my brand's identity by printing on or coating the foil?
A: The surface of our H24 foil is bright and uniform, making it a great substrate for printing in high definition with food safe inks when using rotogravure printing. We also offer a variety of functional coatings including heat seal coatings and protective lacquers that can be tailored to your specific application requirements.

5. What type of technical support will you provide me with for my container formers?
A: The technical support we provide consists of selecting the proper alloy and temper, optimizing press parameters, troubleshooting problems with forming, analysis of tool life, and working together with you to develop specifications that are unique to your container design. Our technical team has significant experience in working with container forming operations across the globe and can provide assistance with all aspects of container forming.
